We've harvested our second round of lettuce! As followers of our blog know, we had our first lettuce harvest from our media bed two weeks ago. Yesterday, we harvested a full crop of lettuce from our raft system... and had delicious salads for dinner last night!
Check out the enormous lettuce heads with lengthy root systems in the picture of Geoff and some freshly harvested veggies to the right. This lettuce was planted just about 30 days ago - after the lettuce in the media bed. We've now started some new seeds in our raft system. We already have some basil growing and now we're working on growing a variety of lettuces, including green leaf, red leaf, and more.

Our raft system, meanwhile is 75% full of giant, fresh lettuce and then also includes some mesclun mix shoots and some basil plants. We'll be harvesting the lettuce tomorrow and planting some new seeds, so check back for more pictures! And... :::drumroll::: soon we'll have a live webcam feed on this website so you can watch our fish swim around. We hop to have it up and running within the next week!
Thank you again, HBS New Ventures, for your support. We were thrilled to win your social enterprise track a couple weeks ago. The outpouring of support and excitement has been incredible. Check out some pictures from our big win!

Check out this recent article on the truth behind many current grocery store offerings. It says that "the average apple in many grocery stores is 14 months old." Turns out, apples are often kept in cold storage for months. The article goes on to say that this is true of many berries, and that fish is often pre-frozen and then thawed at the store.
Want the best tasting, most nutrient rich fruit, vegetables, and fish on the market? Then keep an eye here to learn when FOCUS Foods is fully up and running! Though we're just in the prototype stage now, we are working around the clock towards our first industrial set-up. This will be a 60,000 square foot rooftop system located inside of a greenhouse on top of a grocery store. We'll be selling directly to the store. Our food will go from harvest to store within hours. We can't wait - and we hope you can't either!
FOCUS Foods was profiled as one of the eight finalists in the Wharton Business Plan Competition 2015. You can reach the post here: http://whr.tn/1aAFrmW
